Venture Forward Appoints Two New Directors to Board

SAN FRANCISCO, CA: May 7, 2024 – Venture Forward, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), today announces the appointment of two new directors to its board: Hilary Gosher, Managing Director at Insight Partners, and Garth Timoll, Sr., General Partner at Top Tier Capital Partners. Venture Forward is dedicated to building a stronger, more diverse, equitable, and inclusive future for venture capital (VC).

“Hilary and Garth have long track records of supporting and advancing underrepresented investors and founders in the industry,” said Maryam Haque, Executive Director of Venture Forward. “Their experience and commitment to championing diversity, equity, and inclusion will be instrumental as we unlock pathways towards success for underrepresented investors and expand access and opportunity across the ecosystem.”

Hilary Gosher has been an investor at Insight Partners for two decades. She also sits on the Investment Committee of Vision Capital 2020, Insight’s fund of funds investing in emerging underrepresented managers. Hilary is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia Business School, and she serves on the board of directors of NVCA.

“One of my personal goals is to lift other women and underrepresented leaders up so our industry reflects our society. I’m proud to join the Venture Forward board and work alongside them to translate this shared vision into concrete action that expands access for women, people of color, and other marginalized communities in VC,” said Gosher.

Garth Timoll, Sr. joined Top Tier Capital Partners in 2009. He is a member of the firm’s investment and management committees and co-leads the Velocity team, which executes the firm’s co-investment and venture secondary investment activity. He previously held positions at Portfolio Advisors, Fairview Capital Partners, RogersCasey, and currently serves as a Trustee at his alma mater, Bates College.

“As an advocate for greater diversity in the VC industry, I’m thrilled to join the Venture Forward board and help provide underrepresented investors with the education, mentorship, and career-building opportunities essential to unlocking the full potential of our ecosystem,” said Timoll.

With the appointment of Garth and Hilary, Venture Forward’s board of 12 directors will continue to lead and shape the organization that, to date, has educated nearly 4,000 diverse participants and awarded over 500 scholarships across 15 sold-out cohorts through its VC University certificate course; supported 245 underrepresented emerging managers through its LP Office Hours program; and collected DEI data from more than 300 VC firms in its latest VC Human Capital Survey.
